The exclusive London venue, Kensington Roof Gardens, was the setting for this year’s annual IFA (Institute of Financial Accountants) awards ceremony, to celebrate and recognise top achievers and role-models in enterprise, for contribution to the governing body, and the accounting industry it represents as a whole.

Tony was a successful winner along with other top business professionals, entrepreneurs, and guests including Dragon’s Den investor Theo Pathitis winning “Contribution to UK Enterprise”, radio presenter and former Working Lunch presenter Adam Shaw, and BBC’s Apprentice star Maj Nagra.

Winners at Institute of Financial Accountants 2009 Accountancy awardsThe IFA, primarily aimed for Small to Medium Enterprises and Practices, presented numerous awards categories from Best International Training Centre to Business Entrepreneur of the Year, with 1st 2nd 3rd positions rated as “winner”, “highly commended” and “finalist” respectively:

Tony Surridge, an accountancy lecturer with over 30 years’ experience and a director of the new accounting industry website www.tonysurridge.co.uk, was awarded first place in his category, winning the IFA award “BEST UK ACCOUNTANCY LECTURER 2009”. His award was presented to him by CCH media, the company behind PASS magazine, along with the Chief Executive of the IFA, David Woodgate.

Tony was accompanied on the day by his son, Chris Surridge (the Managing Director of Tony Surridge Online) and by his fellow co-workers at London SAM; Dr. Dak Patel was “Highly Commended” in his category for Business Entrepreneur of the Year, as was his London SAM college for the category of International Training Centre of the Year.  Also Graham Hambly, editor from PQ magazine successfully beat off other competitors such as Accountancy, Accountancy Age, and Financial Management to win the award “Best Business Media of the Year” as trade publication for accountants.

Another category sponsor, Nick O Reily from Vantis BR, as a separate notice, publically thanked Tony Surridge for his dedication and long contribution to the accounting education industry, having personally taught beside him 20 years previously. He said it was great to see that Tony’s standard of lecturing remains as high today as it was 20 years ago, and his recognition thoroughly deserved.

For next year, it was suggested that Tony Surridge also be put forward for “Best Accountancy Website” in light of the coveted launch of his new resource website: www.tonysurridge.co.uk

Tony has won a number of awards over the years, and he appreciates every one.

In discussion Tony has this to say about the IFA, “The IFA is an important institute, and one which is expanding rapidly. Their name will be known even more very soon, and their contribution and first rate help towards small and medium enterprise is paramount to the success of the current UK economy.”

Tony Surridge is an accountancy lecturer with over 30 years experience in the industry, tutoring international students, preparing them for their exams in Chartered Institute of Management Accounting (CIMA), Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), Masters of Business Administration (MBA), Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales (ICAEW), as well as the Institute of Marketing (IM) and other first degrees.

His skills are sought after and he has taught worldwide including: Bahrain, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Malaysia, Mauritius, Poland, Singapore, Trinidad, Uganda, United Kingdom and Uzbekistan. He is also a frequent speaker on management topics, and an author and publisher of numerous accountancy textbooks.

Tony Surridge has numerous students, some of which have gone on to win prize and place awards with the ACCA and CIMA, and Tony Surridge was himself a multi-place and prize winner in his own CIMA exams.

Tony’s positions in the past include; Director of Studies of the London School of Accountancy (LSA), the Director of CIMA Studies of Emile Wolffe Colleges (EW), Director of CIMA Studies of Accountancy Tutors (AT), Director of Canterbury School of Management (CSM) and more recently has became director of his latest company Tony Surridge Online (TSOL) having launched a new website www.tonysurridge.co.uk to provide affordable and free services to accounting and finance professionals at various stages and levels of their career.

Over the years, Tony Surridge began to appreciate the particular circumstances and the extreme difficulties that his students faced in trying to study for, and pass, challenging examinations. He was particularly aware of the barriers for International Students studying in English, a language not their own, and who for a variety of reasons had limited study time and money to spend on study material, courses and other aids. Tony has always been conscious of these hurdles, and has sought to improve these conditions, which has influenced the way in which his particular style of teaching developed, as well as brought about the launch of his new accounting resource website.
