Were do the women go to?
The glass ceiling is alive and kicking in accountancy, according to the latest survey from Accountancy magazine. It might be 2010 but female accountants still aren’t making it to the top. Just under 14% of partners in the Big 4 are women while the female student population is over 40%. PwC come ‘top’ for having the least number of female partners with 12.88%. Among the mid-tier firms it doesn’t really get any better! Grant Thornton stands out with 40 of its 235 partners female (17%). This is offset by PKF (7%) and BDO (10%). Believe it or not this is better than last year, when the survey found just 12.1% of partner were female. There were even 4 firms in the top 60 firms you had no female partners at all. Accountancy said that they have all now appointed at least one now. Watch out for next month’s issue to see what excuses people come up with!
