The future could be finally looking brighter for PQ accountants, as Big 4 firm KPMG has announced a 25% increase in its graduate intake this September. The firm said the jump in the graduate intake from 600 to 760 comes on the back of signs of improvement in the marketplace. The 25% ‘uplift’ takes graduate numbers back to 2008 levels. Most of the newly employed PQs will work in the audit and advisory practices. KPMG said: “the good news for students is that we have vacancies!’ If you include summer interns KPMG will be taking on 900 students over the next six months. About two-thirds will go into ICAEW training contracts and a third ICAS. The firm also confirmed that it is “always looking for suitable NQs and currently has roles in Audit in London.” KPMG’s Richard Bennison said: “It is about investing today to build the skills-base for the future – in the medium term we see a growing demand for professionals equipped with the skills that an accountancy-based training brings.”
