New AAT qualification coming

A revised AAT Accounting Qualification, accredited with a Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) will be launched at the training providers conference this April. The change means the replacement of both the NVQ and diploma pathways, which will no longer be available to new student members. The AAT has stressed that arrangements will be put in place to allow existing students to complete their current level on the relevant pathway, but there will be time limits. The AAT Clare Morley explained: “The revised qualification will be based on the new National Occupational Standards (NOS) for Accounting, so will continue to be up-to-date in terms of equipping AAT members with the skills, knowledge and understanding that we know employers need and want.” The worry is that the AAT is still ‘selling’ the diploma and NVQ routes (when PQ magazine visited) while the new qualification replaces them officially on 1 July 2010. Several tutors PQ has spoken to are concerned that not enough of the detail has been released by the AAT for colleges to plan properly for courses that start in September.
