Time for ethical banking
A new professional standards board is to be created for bankers. If, in the future bankers behave unethically (it is going to be a certainty, so its just a question of when) the new board will have powers to strike them off. The new board would be based on the General Medical Council model. Bankers may have to attend classes on how to behave ethically!
The recommendations come from the Future of Banking Commission, which also says bonuses should be linked on performance over 5-10 years.
Everyone is now waiting to see if business secretary Vince Cable will back these demands.
